Symphoniq and F5 Sign Agreement to Deliver First Web Acceleration Speedometer

Companies agree to combine Symphoniq's TRUE technology with F5's iControl and iRules to measure the specific benefits of application acceleration

PALO ALTO, Calif., January 29, 2007 — Symphoniq® Corp., a leading provider of user-centric end-to-end performance management solutions for Web applications and services, today announced a technology partnership with F5 Networks Inc. (NASDAQ: FFIV), the global leader in Application Delivery Networking. Under the terms of the agreement, Symphoniq will utilize iControl® and iRules™ to develop the industry's first Web acceleration speedometer.

The speedometer will be used to automatically and accurately document the performance improvements delivered by application acceleration appliances. Customers and prospects will be able to use it to understand the performance improvements that F5's solutions can deliver to their specific environment. With the combination of Symphoniq's knowledge of end-user experience and F5's powerful and flexible architecture, customers can move beyond basic monitoring, managing and diagnosing of Web applications to take a proactive approach based on end-user performance results.

"The market for Application Delivery Controllers (ADC) is $1.1B according to an August 2006 report from Gartner titled, "Forecast: Application Acceleration Equipment, Worldwide, 2005-2010".

"Application acceleration technologies to optimize Web applications are rapidly becoming mainstream. As a result, operational management needs are top of mind for enterprises looking to deploy these technologies," said Joe Skorupa, Research VP, Enterprise Network Services and Infrastructure, Gartner, Inc. "Organizations deploying these technologies are looking for objective data, including from the real user's perspective, to improve operational effectiveness."

The speedometer will combine Symphoniq's patent-pending TRUE™ (The Real User Experience) technology with the flexibility of F5's iControl and iRules to quantify the effectiveness of BIG-IP® Application Delivery Controllers. When combined with the Symphoniq TrueView™ Web application performance management suite, the speedometer will allow BIG-IP customers to clock performance improvements as well as relate performance issues to anomalies within the infrastructure or application.

"Because iControl and iRules are so flexible they amplify the capabilities of F5's BIG-IP," said Hon Wong, CEO of Symphoniq. "With iControl and iRules, TrueView's unobtrusive browser-based performance probe can be served up easily by F5's BIG-IP without agents on the servers or any part of the infrastructure. "With this combination of Symphoniq and F5 technology, BIG-IP will be the first Application Delivery Controller on the market that has the ability to not only monitor real user performance results, but also tune its acceleration functionality based on such results."

"Symphoniq's field-proven technology delivers actionable real user performance monitoring," said Jeff Browning, Director of Product Management at F5. "Through extensive integration with F5's iControl and iRules, Symphoniq eliminates the need for distributed software agents across the network to deliver highly scalable and maintainable deployments. Our joint customers realize the direct benefits by expanding the value of their BIG-IP appliances as Web performance management appliances to monitor and triage performance problems. For the first time in the market, you can tune BIG-IP, the leading Application Delivery Controller, and see the results from an end-user perspective."

The combined technology will initially be deployed as a tool for F5's field sales and channel partners to demonstrate the effectiveness of BIG-IP in accelerating Web applications.
